Millions of tires get discarded every year and are non-biodegradable. At CHAL, we aim to use them in making our most durable and long lasting shoes. A single pair of tire can make upto3 pairs of shoes. 

Upcycled fabric on this site are all sourced from Iro Iro.

Other fabrics such as kala cotton and hemp are sourced from local weaver communities. 

Embroideries are done with refugee women who were relocated in Jaipur in collaboration with UNHCR. 

Leather is sourced from ethical tanneries.

Fabric & Denim Shoes

How to clean:

  • Use a soft toothbrush, mild soap, and water to gently scrub the surface.
  • Rinse with a damp cloth — no need to soak.
  • Air-dry completely before wearing.

Pro tip: Avoid machine washing unless specified. Spot cleaning helps retain shape and color.

Leather Shoes

How to clean:

  • Wipe gently with a damp cloth to remove dirt.
  • Use a leather conditioner occasionally to maintain suppleness.
  • Store in a dry place away from direct sunlight.

Avoid: Soaking in water, heavy scrubbing, or machine washing.

Suede Shoes

How to clean:

  • Use a suede brush or suede cleaning kit (available online or in shoe stores).
  • For stains, gently rub with a suede eraser or a dab of white vinegar on a cloth.
    Note: Suede is sensitive to water — always brush when dry.

Babouche (Machine Washable Styles)

How to clean:

  • Toss into the washing machine on a gentle cycle with cold water.
  • Air-dry in shade (not direct sun).

Note: Some fraying may occur with time — simply trim it off with scissors to keep them neat.

Tire Sole & Upcycled Styles

How to clean:

  • Wipe down the soles with a damp cloth or soft brush.
  • For upper materials, follow the instructions above based on leather, fabric, or denim.
    Note: These soles are super durable — perfect for everyday wear with a conscience.
